The sample photographs displayed on this website are small versions of 7-inch by 10-inch
photographs from the book. The book contains sixty-six color
photographs, in either landscape or portrait (page) orientation.
The printer uses 100-lb ultra-white paper stock for printing color photographs, and 120-lb
ultra-white glossy paper stock for book covers.
This first edition of 'The Flora of Crete' will not contain names or identification of the
flora. I must apologize for this shortcoming of the first edition.
While on Crete, on many
occasions, local residents suggested their 'common name' for specific flora I had photographed.
However, in most cases, there was not a consensus on any particular name. And, during my
year-long visit on Crete, I did not have plans to publish a book about Crete flora . . . so
I did not concern myself about not having names for the flora.
Therefore, I think it
best if plant identification is deferred until I am able to consult with botanists.
I hope to redeem myself
of this omission in a future edition of this book, and after thoughtful and careful study
of plant taxonomy germane to Crete flora.
